CITY FUTURES - AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GLOBALISM
AND URBAN CHANGE
To be held in Chicago on 8-10 July 2004.
The conference sets out to bring together leading
scholars from across the world to examine how global forces are impacting
on cities and how governments, cities and communities are responding to
these new challenges.
Within the overall theme of 'City Futures' there will be three
international tracks:
, Comparative urban analysis
, Comparative urban planning
, Comparative city governance
We are seeking to attract contributions from a diversity of disciplines
including sociology,
economics, geography, urban planning, housing, architecture, political
science, public
administration, transport studies, cultural studies, public policy and
government.
The conference, which will be held in the heart of Chicago, enjoys the
full support of the
Urban Affairs Association (UAA) and the European Urban Research
Association (EURA). Both these
associations are hoping that the event can spur a step change in the
quality and quantity of
cross-national, comparative urban research.
I attach a copy of the Call for Papers and hope that you will consider
submitting an abstract
ahead of the deadline of 30 October 2003. By all means forward this
attachment to colleagues
in other countries who you feel may be interested. Please note that we are
seeking
contributions that address the international agenda - either by comparing
and contrasting
experiences in different countries or by drawing lessons and insights from
particular countries
that speak to an international audience.
The College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs at the University of
Illinois at Chicago is
pleased to take responsibility for organizing this international event.
The Call includes some
images of this world city and I hope these will also encourage you to
consider submitting a
proposal.
With all good wishes,
Robin Hambleton
