WPSC2 AGENDA SUGGESTIONS

As you know, in Shanghai last summer, the resolution adopted by the
planning school association executives (later referred to as the Shanghai
Statement) called for "a committee to plan holding the second WPSC." The
association executives also:

--established a deadline of December 2001 for the various planning school
associations to endorse the Shanghai Statement and join the preparations
for the 2nd WPSC, and

--set the target date of December 2002 for the release of a Call for
Proposals to host the 2nd WPSC.

Nine planning school associations have now endorsed the Shanghai Statement and have named representatives to the WPSC2 Steering Committee. These are:
ACSP (US), ACUPP, AESOP, ALEUP, ANPUR (Brasil), ANZAPS, APERAU
(Francophone), APSA, and ICCRPEA.

This past November, in Cleveland USA at the time of the annual ACSP
conference, Jo Looye and I (ACSP), Tom Harper (ACUPP), and Louis Albrechts and Hans Mastop (AESOP), and Prof. Bruce Stiftel discussed how to move the committee forward. They proposed that the committee should meet in Volos, Greece during the AESOP Congress this coming July; a proposal that was subsequently endorsed by other members of the committee without dissent, and which led to committee meetings being set for 8 July (0900-1730) and 12 July (1930-2100) in Volos. They also proposed the following agenda items for the Volos meeting:

1) Selection of a chairperson of the WPSC2 Steering Committee;
2) Selection of ground rules for the committee's deliberations (such as
what constitutes a quorum, what will normally be considered sufficient
voting support to make a decision, when further meetings are expected, how
to handle advance costs associated with the committee's activities, etc.)

2) Agreement on the text of the Call for Proposals for the site and local
host school(s) for WPSC2;
3) Agreement on the general criteria to be used to evaluate Proposals;
4) Setting of a process to be used to review proposals received, and reach a decision about the host (with the expectation of reaching such a decision no later than December 2003 and recognizing that each of the associations would have to be consulted).
